CBD FAQs

What is CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol (pronounced “keh-nih-bih-DYE-all”). It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause the “high” associated with marijuana.

Does CBD get you high?

No. While marijuana and hemp come from the same plant, the primary difference between industrial hemp and marijuana is the concentrations of THC. Short for Tetrahydrocannabinol, THC is the psychoactive chemical in marijuana that is responsible for the “high” feeling associated with its consumption. To be deemed hemp, the plant must contain only trace amounts of THC, 0.3% or less.

What’s the science behind CBD?

The research of the pharmacology of CBD is ongoing about the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) and CBD’s role in health and wellness. However, these studies are still ongoing and have not been approved by the FDA.

How was Select CBD developed?

Select CBD is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Curaleaf, a leading medical and wellness cannabis operator with over 113 dispensaries in the United States. While Curaleaf had primarily been engaged in the cultivation and sale of marijuana, it received countless requests and recommendations from patients seeking non-intoxicating alternatives. In order to focus exclusively on the needs of customers who want a natural supplement to their health and wellness with no “high,” Curaleaf Hemp was launched in 2018 and Select CBD added in 2021.

What is the difference between isolate CBD and broad-spectrum CBD?

Isolate CBD is just what it sounds like. After the CBD is extracted from the plant and run through a complicated distillation process, the end product is “isolated” CBD in pure, crystal form. Broad Spectrum CBD is any CBD product that also contains the natural array of other cannabinoids, but with less than .3% THC”.

How are Select CBD products tested?

Every Select CBD product is tested to ensure the concentration and consistency of our products. We also test to ensure our products are free of pesticides, solvents and other harmful contaminants. Rigorous testing our customers get the purest and most consistent CBD on the market.

How should CBD be used?

We recommend discussing your interest in CBD with your doctor and listening to his/her thoughts and suggestions. If you decide that our products are for you, we recommend a “start low and go slow” strategy. This involves taking small doses of our product, documenting in a journal the amount you used and how your body responded and then increasing the amount/frequency if necessary.

What’s the difference between marijuana-based CBD and hemp-based CBD?

At Select CBD, we believe the purest CBD comes from the purest source. CBD can be extracted from hemp and marijuana plants. In addition to CBD, marijuana plants also contain THC, the intoxicating compound that gets you “high.” We eliminate any possibility of THC influencing our products by extracting our CBD exclusively from hemp plants with no more than 0.3% THC.

What is the future of CBD and hemp?

As more research is done and the true potential of CBD and other hemp-derived cannabinoids is unlocked, we expect CBD and hemp to become primary wellness supplements.

What are the most common misconceptions about Hemp and CBD?

The most common misconception about hemp is that it is the same as marijuana. As a result of this misconception, people who want nothing to do with marijuana have a hard time believing that CBD is natural and non-intoxicating. At Select CBD, it’s our job to help provide some guidance on the facts about hemp and CBD while making sure to avoid any claims not confirmed by proper clinical research.

What are the medical benefits?

Although we have received countless letters, emails and testimonials from satisfied consumers, the only FDA-approved CBD product is Epidiolex (a pharmaceutical drug primarily prescribed to children with certain seizures). For that reason, we are unable to make claims about any health benefits of our CBD products. We stand by the quality of all our CBD products and the fact that they all contain only trace amounts of THC, 0.3% or less All Select CBD products are manufactured in our production facility in KY, which is exclusively focused on hemp products and does not produce any THC products.
We encourage you to ask your physician for their thoughts on CBD. Once you have all the facts, make an informed decision about whether CBD is right for you.
